In this episode, Amie and Sara discuss the funny and ugly truths  related to relationship dynamic between nursing and residents physicians on the unit. We ask the residents 3 questions:

1. 80 hr work week, are you for real?

2. Do nurses eat their residents too?

3. Will the real doctor please stand up? 

The residents ask the Gritty Nurses 3 questions:

1. Is the nursing break room off limits?

2. Is there a different dynamic between female nurses and female docs?

3. How best can residents build relationships with nurses? 

What are some hard truths? What are some myths? We discuss the importance of communication and inter-professional team work and how best we can create a healthy environments between residents and nurses. And if its not a given, food always helps! 

Dr. Alvin Chin is a 5th year emergency medicine resident at McMaster University where he also completed his medical school. His interests are in Health innovation, FOAMed, and being a regular contributor to nursing potlucks. He believes that tuck in rounds are a life-changing practice, that there is not such thing as too much coffee, and that there needs to be a better mutual understanding between nurses and residents, especially in academic hospitals.

Dr. Joana Dida is an emergency medicine resident at McMaster University. She previously completed her Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science and Medical Doctorate degree at the University of Toronto. Her subspecialty interests include point of care ultrasound, medical education, and interprofessional relationships. She is food and coffee obsessed and will attempt to feed anyone and everyone with her cooking. When possible, she will participate in any sport and similar to sports, she believes great teamwork is the cornerstone of good medical care.
